Halloween is just one week away! Hope you have your costumes ready. We hope you didn't carve your pumpkins yet bc chances are they will be rotting before the trick or treaters show up. If you missed our blog last week it has a list of all of the tools you need to get started.  This week's blog is dedicated to creative jack o lanterns. Be sure you share your spooky creations with us. We can't wait to see them.

Pumpkinseption

jackolantern-with-baby-pumpkinLet's start easy. This typical jack o lantern gets a spooky surprise with a tiny victim hidden inside. First start by tracing out the eyes and mouth on the larger pumpkin with a pencil or marker. Then you can start carving. Be sure that the smaller pumpkin can fit inside the mouth. For the smaller pumpkin take a melon baller to scoop out the eyes and mouth. You don't want these cuts to be too deep since you won't be hollowing it out. Once all of the carving is done use a wet rag to wash off all of the marker or pencil marks. Once everything is clean and dry you can add some details to the smaller pumpkin. For safe illumination use a battery powered faux candle so you don't scorch the inside.

Sp?ky Eyes

On to the sockets. Buy cutting a hole large enough in the back of the pumpkin to fit the white ones you just decorated. Once you have a nice and clean pumpkin cut almond shaped openings in the front so that you can see the irises of the white pumpkins. Use a linoleum cutter to line the eyes and create some lashes. You now have an eye catching display without all of the intricate detail work.

Ticky Tacky Town

jack-o-townObviously we are partial to this one.  It reminds us of the Christmas villages, same concept different season.  Trace out outlines of whatever homes tickle your fancy. Fill in with matte black paint and allow to dry completely. Use your pin to trace out windows and doors. Now you can get started carving. If you are planning on doing windows with grills you are going to want to be very careful. Make one or make a few these will be sure to be a showstopper.

It's a Pumpkin Life For Me

Shiver me timbers, This pirate pumpkin really turns the process on its side. By using the stem as the nose you add a 3D element to your carving. If you aren't super confident in your carving skills you don't need to carve out teeth. The best part about this Jack O Lantern is that no matter what type of face that is carved slap a handkerchief and a pirate hat and you have a pirate pumpkin.
